Medical evacuation and anti-drone protection
Leleka is committed to helping field medics in Ukraine save as many precious lives as possible. Effective medical evacuation is one of the crucial tasks to achieve that goal. It is widely considered that a critical injury casualty has better chances of survival if they get to the surgery within an hour (known as Golden Hour rule). Therefore, swift medical evacuation is key to survival of the wounded soldiers.
Since February 2022, we already dispatched over 40 medical evacuation vehicles and over 100 anti-drone protection devices to the front-line medics. Due to the nature and costs involved, we are always looking for corporate donors willing to support evacuation efforts. Please contact us if you wish to support the project.
Medical evacuation vehicles
In most cases, standard ambulances are not suitable for evacuations in remote or dangerous areas, where challenging road conditions, rugged terrain, and active conflict make transportation difficult and unsafe.
As part of our Medevac for Ukraine initiative, we are addressing these challenges by sourcing off-road vehicles from Europe. These vehicles undergo a thorough refurbishment process and are equipped with medical fixtures and equipment to meet the demanding needs of combat medical evacuations.
Once ready, these vehicles are deployed to the front lines in Eastern and Southern Ukraine, where they provide life-saving support to injured soldiers in some of the most volatile regions.
Given the nature of combat zones, medevac vehicles often get damaged and need repairs. Based on available resources, we help with restoration of damaged vehicles to help evacuation teams continue with their tasks. Unfortunately, in some cases medevacs need to be replaced in entirety therefore this project requires constant inflow of resources.
Apart from refurbished off-road vehicles, we strive to leverage partnerships and corporate donations to procure new vehicles designed for harsh conditions. In 2023, in partnership with the Yellowblue Force Foundation and with the financial support of The Pfizer Foundation, has delivered 11 specially equipped Toyota vehicles for the evacuation of the wounded to medics of various units. These vehicles have been successfully evacuating injured individuals from the war zone for several months now.
Anti-drone protection
According to the field medics in Ukraine, medical evacuation has become an almost impossible task without having anti-drone protection equipment onboard. Hostile FPV-drones constantly and specifically target evacuation vehicles, compromising safety of evacuation teams. Such attacks can lead to deaths of the medics, the wounded, and to destruction of the vehicle.
To protect Ukrainian medics and wounded in their care, we do our best to supply anti-drone protection systems. These systems are designed to detect, track, and neutralize hostile drones that pose a significant threat to both the evacuation vehicles and the personnel involved in rescue operations.
Currently, we have over 70 requests outstanding for anti-drone systems. Please help us fulfil them to protect lives!
