An Evening of Resilience: Leleka Foundation Hosts Screening of People of Steel with Sergiy Fomenko

Leleka Foundation, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Museum and Library of Stamford, Saint Basil Seminary, and Brave Selections, hosted a powerful cultural and humanitarian event celebrating Ukrainian courage, resilience, and unity in the face of ongoing war.

The evening featured a screening of People of Steel, an acclaimed Ukrainian documentary directed by Sergiy Fomenko — celebrated musician, frontman of the iconic Ukrainian band Mandry, and a volunteer in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Following the film, Fomenko took the stage for a live acoustic performance, blending traditional Ukrainian sounds with his signature style.

The event brought together members of the Ukrainian-American community and local supporters.

People of Steel tells the story of the heroic defense of Mariupol in the spring of 2022, the brutal reality faced by Ukrainian POWs, and the relentless fight for their release. Combining live footage with intimate interviews, the film is a powerful tribute to resilience.

“The main goal of the film is to ensure that those who are in captivity now will eventually be released and won’t be forgotten by the media.”
